It's Ultra Magnus, my first ever version of him! I've had 1000's of requests for an UM but I didn't want to do a repaint of a prime like everyone else. So I searched and searched for the perfect form. One day I was on David Willis of Shortpacked's LiveJournal chatting about the new Star Wars Transformers, the Turbo Tank in particular. Someone suggested I make it into an Ultra Magnus and whatta ya know, it's exactly what I was looking for.
Here's where I'm kinda 'meh' tho. I tried a new approach to the custom instead of my usual drybrushed/paint wash theme I usually give my figures. UM was done in primary colors with some line-in detail and other shades of the same color over top. I keep having people on the TF boards ask me to change my style from making 'weathered' TFs to cleaner one. You know, like you'd see from a factory (ok, a little more detailed). Gundam-kit-esq I guess.
I'm not impressed with the end result, nor did I have fun painting the figure as if I had gone all out with wild paint wash shading and drybrushing. It was just as boring to me as what you see in on the shelf at Wal Mart. I could mistake this for the Titanium UM without a second look. So lesson learned, changing your style doesn't make you a better painter, it just makes you a sucker, heh. Stick with what you like, not what other people think you should do and develop it to the best of your ability.
I prefer the weathered look too. Makes them look more like big battling machines instead of just out the package toys.
This is really nice work though. Easily the best Ultra Magnus I've ever seen and the most unique (what with it not being anything like Prime). I disliked the Titanium Magnus, but if this one came out in the shops I'd buy it without a doubt. Hasbro gonna have a hard time topping this one with their announced Classics 2.0 Mags.
"That's a stupid thing to say and you're stupid for saying it! I know better than you because I'm one of the guys who watches your stuff, which makes me more qualified to judge it than you are!"

Wouldn't it be nasty if i really thought that? Personally, I think a departure from the norm is nice from time to time. I don't picture Magnus as being the sort of guy to incur scuffs anyway. He's got the personality of a boring, straight-laced cop, the kind of guy who never lets his uniform get dirty. So I think the ultra-clean look sorta fits here. Then again, if you're not satisfied with the results, well, it's your project, and you get the final say, man. Still, I think it looks great ^^

Either way you're far better than I could ever be.
A lot of the Transformers' paint jobs look like crap off the shelves and seriously need the repaint (especially Rescue Ratchet's face, most of Hasbro's repaints look horrible, they should hire you to do it right)

But the figure is nothing short of impressive!

I thought your Galvatron repaint was really great and more than 'clean' enough in style.
Always good to challenge yourself with something new though.
Nice work ^^
