When you parents tell you there's no such things as monsters they're usually right.
Usually.

"MOM!!! MOTHER!!!!" I cried out.
She came quickly to my bedside.

"Honey, what is it? What's the matter?"
"I saw it! It was right outside my window!"
"Honey, there's nothing there."
"No! I saw it! It was right outside!"

That was the first time I saw it.
Every autumn brings the cool winds and the harvest.
But it also brings something else.
I tell myself it's just a shadow.
I tell myself it'll go away if I close my eyes.
But things like this don't listen to little boys.

I can see it just outside my window again.
I can't scream now, my throat is too dry.
My will parents tell me there's nothing outside.
So I lie there awake, as still as I can be.

The window is opening... oh god.
There's no such thing as monsters.
That's what my parents say.
So I'll close my eyes and count to three.
It won't be there when I open them.
